A whole new world…from California to Indiana
I am currently sitting at a computer lab at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana - a world that seems so different from my own. I have been dating an Indiana boy for a year but this is the first time I have been able to visit his home town and school in Indiana. Being a California girl since birth, Bakersfield, parts of Northern Cali, and Fillmore were about the only rural exposure that I got. Yesterday we took a drive from Elkhart, IN to West Lafayette and the whole time I kept thinking, “Okay, now where is the city and where are the buildings?” But they never really came until we got to the university. Trees and fields as far as the eye could see was what the scenic drive accounted for. And it was absolutely beautiful. A couple times my boyfriend had to tell me to stop waiting for the city because trees and fields IS what Indiana is all about. Now I’ve always been a nature girl. I love camping, the ocean, the sky, animals and I experience God mostly through nature. So it was a shock for me that once I was completely surrounded by green grass and crops, and blue skies… that I couldn’t completely take it in. Now I know I will always been a California girl at heart, but when I pull back into Los Angeles, but I don’t want to forget the beautiful sites and wonders I have experienced here. I love the city, but there is nothing like experiencing God’s great power and imagination through His very own creation. So living back in the city I’ll have to remind myself to get out on a constant basis and go enjoy the beach, take a drive to the forest, or just sit on top of a mountain and enjoy the natural creations around me.
